The President of the Cyprus Third Age Observatory, Demos Antoniou, held very important and productive meetings in recent days, at a European level.
Mr. Antoniou participated in the final conference of the European program Mentoring Across Borders, where the organisation is a partner. He also attended the award ceremony honoring organizations recognised for their contributions to the SENT (Senior Experts Nurturing Talent) program. During this event, he had the opportunity to exchange ideas and propose initiatives aimed at enhancing the active participation of older adults in both Cyprus and Europe.
Furthermore, Mr Antoniou held meetings with Cypriot Members of the European Parliament, Giorgos Georgiou from the Left Group and Costas Mavridis from the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. These highly constructive discussions focused on critical issues such as bridging the generational gap, activating older adults, combating ageism, addressing elder abuse, and dealing with dementia-related problems and preventive actions. Additionally, Mr Antoniou briefed the MEPs on the progress of the Remcread program, which aims to empower migrant women by developing their skills, as well as on the initiatives of the European organization AGE Platform Europe to create a Europe for ALL Ages.
Finally, Mr Antoniou expressed his gratitude to Mr Georgiou and Mr Mavridis for their commitment to actively participating in the roundtable discussions to be held on January 10, 2025, at the Journalistic House. These discussions will occur within the framework of the 2nd European Political Conference on Active, Healthy, and Dignified Aging, organized by the Cyprus Third Age Observatory in collaboration with the European Parliament Office in Cyprus and the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee.
