PILOT PHASE
January-February 2026

The “Red Button” is an innovative emergency assistance service that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Through a specially staffed Call Management Coordination Centre, in which psychologists, social workers and volunteers with specialisation and/or training in mental health issues participate, it will provide immediate support to people who are in a state of crisis or emergency, as well as continuous psychological empowerment – all this, simply at the press of a button.

 

The programme will begin on a pilot basis in January and February 2026, with 80 users selected by a special team from the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare. The selection will be based on specific criteria, ensuring that different age groups, including those 75 years and over, varying levels of vulnerability, socio-economic profiles, and mental health needs, as well as the geographical distribution of the population, are represented. The pilot phase aims to assess the effectiveness and usability of the service, identify any weaknesses, and make the necessary improvements before it expands on a broader scale.

 

For the start of the pilot phase, psychologists and social workers will be employed by our organisation as follows:

Duties

  • Receiving and handling incoming calls 24/7, providing psychological and social support.

  • Risk/needs assessment and immediate coordination with the family network, competent services (hospitals, police, fire service) and volunteer neighbours.

  • Scheduled calls to service users to reduce loneliness and empower beneficiaries.

  • Compliance with protocols, incident recording, and protection of beneficiaries’ data and dignity.

  • Participation in training, compilation of quality indicators and group supervision.

 

Essential qualifications

  • Degree in Psychology or Social Work.

  • Registration with the corresponding Professional Register in Cyprus.

  • Excellent command of Greek; good command of English is desirable.

  • Ability to work in shifts and to manage crises/stress.

  • Strong communication and digital record-keeping skills.

 

Desirable

  • Experience in helplines/crisis management, geriatric psychology or community work.

  • Training in Psychological First Aid, prevention of elder abuse, and networking with local services.
