The Cyprus Third Age Observatory presented the project "Isocratic Democracy in Action" at an event held in Limassol. The presentation and the discussion that followed presented the basic principles of the project and how they can be utilized by the state and society, having longevity and the right to work as the main pillars.
The project "CIF - Isocratic Democracy in Action" focuses on the following four main dimensions:
What are the opportunities for older people, who have already retired, to work part-time, utilizing their experience and at the same time boosting their income, as pensions are often insufficient?
How do younger generations perceive their collaboration with older workers in the context of professional activity?
What are the stereotypes and prejudices that older workers face and how can their experience and expertise be utilized in modern jobs? In other words, how can we overturn the stereotypical perception that considers them a burden and not an important asset of knowledge, skills and stability for the work environment?
And ultimately, how will we convince policymakers that imposing disincentives to the employment of older people, through tax and insurance burdens without any tangible benefit, has no substantial benefit for the Cypriot economy?
The project also seeks to demonstrate that the increase in life expectancy - longevity - does not primarily concern the current older generation, but mainly the young, who will experience its effects throughout their lives. In this sense, raising awareness among young citizens about the need for timely planning for longer life expectancy, adapting policies and fully utilizing the professional potential of all citizens, acquires particular importance and priority.
