Lobbying in Brussels "A Europe for All Ages:

CTAO news team
In cooperation with the Cyprus Third Age Observatory, AGE Platform Europe created a particular lobbying group to promote ageing issues in the European Parliament and called on MEPs to support the initiative "A Europe for All Ages".

The joint effort of the two organisations reflects a commitment to a Europe that respects ageing and ensures the rights of all generations. A Europe for All Ages aims to promote policies that address the inequalities that accumulate throughout life and promote equal treatment and rights for all ages. The group will bring together MEPs from different political groups and committees to promote a holistic policy framework that considers the needs and challenges faced by older people and the right of all to live with dignity and equality at all stages of their lives.

To this end, a special meeting was organised last week in Brussels to set up a group within the European Parliament to prioritise and promote the serious issues of an ageing population. The effort was embraced by several MEPs with particular sensitivity to human rights and social issues, including Cypriot MEPs Costas Mavridis, Loukas Fourlas, George Georgiou and Michael Hadjipantela, who supported active, healthy and dignified ageing and the principles of non-discrimination. The four MEPs will support the efforts of the two organisations and promote the issues of ageing and the critical issues of bridging the generation gap. The Cyprus Third Age Observatory and AGE Platform Europe publicly thank them for their support and excellent cooperation. The Observatory was represented at the meeting by its President, Mr. Demos Antoniou.

The creation of the group "A Europe for All Ages" will help raise awareness and the profile of these issues at the highest political level of the European Union. Moreover, strengthening cooperation between MEPs from different political groups and countries will allow the development of an integrated approach to ageing, which will benefit all European citizens.

The Cyprus Third Age Observatory and AGE Platform Europe are committed to continuing meetings with MEPs and strengthening the dialogue with all stakeholders to ensure the successful creation of "A Europe for All Ages" by promoting concrete measures and policies that will empower older people in society and ensure sustainability and equality for all ages.
