The Cyprus Third Age Observatory welcomes the decision by the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry and the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare to include low-income pensioners and single-parent families in the Special Household Tariff (Code 08) of the Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC).
This decision marks a significant step towards social justice and provides practical support to the most vulnerable groups in our population, who often face severe financial challenges. The Third Age Observatory is particularly pleased to have contributed to this important decision, which has been a long-standing request of the organization and other social partners.
The Observatory expresses its hope that all necessary arrangements will be completed in time for the measure to take effect on 1 December 2024, as announced. It also emphasizes its commitment to closely monitor the implementation of this initiative to ensure that low-income pensioners and single-parent families promptly receive the benefits they are entitled to.
