In the strongest terms of the word, the Cyprus Third Age Observatory condemns the robbery and beating of an older person in Limassol by two minors. It continues to ring the alarm bell regarding the abuse of the elderly. Society is witnessing another incident of violence against the Elderly, who cannot react to physical, verbal, and psychological abuse, neglect, isolation, and age-related bullying behaviors in all their forms.
Society must react immediately and decisively to protect this vulnerable population group of people if the State cannot do so. Once again, the elderly become the easy target because some people think they can do it undisturbed and without consequences.
The Cyprus Third Age Observatory calls on the State to implement best practices and programs against the abuse of senior people and fight ageism. The elderly in Cyprus must be safe and grow old with dignity.
